You will notice that the colors in your artwork change as you make adjustments in this dialog box. Refer to Figure 8-106.

If you like the color changes you make, as you go along, make sure to save your color swatches that you like frequently. It would be best to work on a copy of your graphic so you don’t have to recolor the original again.

You will notice that color groups found in the Swatches panel are stored on the right of the dialog box. Look for the arrow on the right to expand or collapse this area. Refer to Figure 8-107.

As you create a group in the upper area, name the group you created, and click the folder to save the group. Refer to Figure 8-108.

These color groups can be expanded to see all of the CMYK swatches and settings.

Other settings are the reset which allows you to restore back to the default colors in the artwork. Refer to Figure 8-110.

If you make changes to a selected color in a group with the HSB sliders, the name will turn italic; you can choose to save your changes to a color group and update the group. Refer to Figure 8-111.

You can delete a selected color group by clicking the trash can icon or right-clicking the color group or swatch and choose Remove Color Group or remove color. Note that you cannot undo this step, so you may want to save a backup of the swatches group while in the recolor artwork box and give that group another name. Refer to Figure 8-112.

While active, click the folder icon and then double-click the name of the new swatch to rename the group. Refer to Figure 8-113.

Once you have completed working with your swatches, click the OK button to exit so the color groups are officially saved. And click Yes to the message if you have not saved your recent changes to a new group. Refer to Figure 8-114.

They now appear in the Swatches panel with the rest of the swatches. Refer to Figure 8-115.

Note  I did not click one button in the Recolor Artwork dialog box, which was the Generative Recolor which we will look at shortly. If I had done that, I may have lost my saved settings in the Recolor Artwork dialog box before I clicked OK to confirm. Refer to Figure 8-116.
